Sport Sedan 90s Style: This Motorweek Review Of The 1995 Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG Is A Neat Slice Of History

Sport Sedan 90s Style: This Motorweek Review Of The 1995 Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG Is A Neat Slice Of History

The idea of a sports sedan is something that has been present and accounted for in the modern sense of the American automotive market for about 40 years at this point. The BMW M3 broke the mold, the Taurus SHO brought it to the common man, and Mercedes was comparatively slow to enter the came, dropping the E36 AMG in the middle 1990s. Now since those days, the idea has morphed with more horsepower and more hardcore performance but as you will see in this video, when the Mercedes came into the fold, everyone took notice.

It’s kind of a quaint thing to think about but this car with its 268hp, 15.3-second quarter mile times, and beefier suspension was really a rock star back then. They were sold in really limited numbers as you’ll hear. Yes, only 1,000 were going to be built over the planned three year run of the car which was a partnership between Mercedes and AMG. Today you can buy a Toyota Camry that would bury this thing in about every respect. That said, the E36 AMG is still cooler.

There’s no turbocharger, there’s no active driver controlled suspension adjustments, hell there isn’t even a manual transmission on the option sheet! We’d still like to have one of these cars because when we were teenagers they were a hot ticket. Remember when these came out? What did you think back then? What do you think now?

Wicked Fast Isle Of Man TT Motorcycle Racing Footage – Near Miss, Crazy Action

Wicked Fast Isle Of Man TT Motorcycle Racing Footage – Near Miss, Crazy Action

The Isle of Man TT is arguably the most bad ass motorcycle race on the planet. It just is. Held on public roads, with bikes of all kinds in a variety of classes, the entire place shuts down during race time and the spectators line the roads like little school kids waiting for the ice cream man. This is some epic stuff here folks and if you have never seen it before then be inspired to do something crazy right here. Keep in mind, the Isle of Man is not some place full of modern 4 lane roads and a road course like when a Grand Prix comes to a major city. No, we’re talking small roads, rock walls, lots of bumps that become huge jumps, and very very few barricades. That means that lots of people are standing with nothing but the small farmers fence or small wall around their yards between them and motorcycles going 150-200 mph. Yeah, it’s that kind of awesome.

Watch the video, love the action, and also enjoy the reactions of some of the people who have never been this close to the action before. You’ll see the look of shock on their faces, their hair blowing in the wind as bikes go by at break neck speeds, and the fun things that come out of their mouths after seeing them go by. This is fun stuff.

Making Formed Carbon Fiber Parts At Home! This Is Super Cool And We Want To Do It!

Making Formed Carbon Fiber Parts At Home! This Is Super Cool And We Want To Do It!

We’ve featured Carbon Fiber fabrication videos from Street Bandito before, but this one is cooler yet. The process for building this small part can totally be replicated for something bigger, and other than the materials there are no special tools you can’t acquire pretty easily. This part is small, more decorative that structural, but ends up really nice and strong and is the first part he ever built himself. I dig it, and this video just makes me want to try it in my own garage. I’ve already been thinking I need an oven for the new shop in case I want to powder coat small parts or something, but this just cements the idea that I need it. An oven, a vacuum pump, and some materials and you are good to go. This is fun looking stuff and with the availability of resins and materials nowadays you can make virtually anything from Carbon Fiber.

What do you think? Would you try this at home?

Finnegan Built A Paint Booth In His Driveway And Painted His C10! I’M SO JEALOUS!!!

Finnegan Built A Paint Booth In His Driveway And Painted His C10! I’M SO JEALOUS!!!

I’ve been wanting to build my own paint booth and paint a car for years, and I have a car that is in serious need of a color change and some fresh paint so when I saw this latest video from Finnegan I was both jealous and inspired. Yes, you can be both. You’ll see that Finnegan and Newbern make this paint booth with regular stuff. There is nothing fancy and unobtainable here. With that said, my plans call for a little bit different main structure than he uses but otherwise they are nearly identical. If you’d like to see us paint a car in a home built paint booth, then let me know and we’ll get on it.

What you’ll dig about this video is the fact that, as usual, these two walk us through the thought process, the build process, any tough decisions, and finally spraying paint on the body. I hope this is the start of Finnegan painting more stuff in his driveway, because I think it would be pretty entertaining. For some reason I feel like they should hand Cotten the paint gun and let him go to town. He’s an artist after all, or so he says.

Making Six Out Of Four: Watch England’s Allen Millyard Create A Set Of Kawasaki Z1 Six Cylinder Jugs!

Making Six Out Of Four: Watch England’s Allen Millyard Create A Set Of Kawasaki Z1 Six Cylinder Jugs!

We have been showing you some cool videos recently shot by a guy named Allen Millyard in England. This dude creates wild, factory-looking custom motorcycles in his little garage and shed and he does it all basically by hand. In this video we see him take a couple sets of Kawasaki Z1 four cylinder jugs and make a six cylinder set for an engine he is custom creating. The process is fascinating, cool, and something that he makes look really easy but certainly isn’t.

Millyard is a hot rodder of the highest level and his medium is motorcycles. From building a 5-liter V-twin engine and riding it around on a custom chassis to doing stuff like this, he always has neat ideas and has the time, the guile, and the knowledge to make them all work. It’s all so simple on paper, right? Cut some stuff up, weld it back together, and just go ahead and make it perfect so that they fit onto a block you also modified. No sweat! We love his videos because they are really step by step trips through the process of his many, many builds.

We’re going to keep following this one and frankly, having seen this part of the process we should probably show you how he modified the block, tomorrow. Right? Smart guy with basic tools and a really awesome approach. What’s not to love here?

2022 McLaren Artura Is The Beginning Of A New Era

Hybrid and EV technology is watching gasoline ride off into the sunset. The new 2022 McLaren Artura is the beginning of a new era, as we watch V6 engines have now made the V8 look obsolete. If you watched the reveal with us, you are likely smiling at the notions of an all-new chassis.

Using the 600LT as a benchmark, the new carbon fiber monocoque is lighter and stronger while also accommodating a battery pack. Another incredible leap forward is the V6 engine. Instead of firing the cylinders at 60 or 90 degrees, the cylinder heads are 120 degrees apart. This wide-angle offers perfect balance without needing heavy counterweights on the crankshaft.

The engine itself offers 577 horsepower and 431 lb-ft of torque, and it is supplemented by the latest in hybrid assistance. A compact battery is rated at 7.4 kWh, and it allows the car to have a total output of 671 horsepower and 531 lb-ft of torque. Cutting weight in every component allows this car to offer a curb weight of 3,303 lbs. This allows it to reach 60 mph in 3 seconds, 124 mph in 8.3 seconds, and 186 mph in under 22 ticks.

The electric motor offers a range of 19 miles, and swapping the polarity allowed engineers to build a new dual-clutch transmission without a reverse gear. Nothing about the Artura is shared with its predecessors except for the brand’s logo. Every car will arrive with a host of other performance-minded goodies that don’t add weight. From an electronic differential to Pirelli Cyber Tyre technology, you will truly be amazed it can all be offered at a starting price of $225,000. This car will undoubtedly be the beginning of a new series, so stay with us for all your McLaren news.

Barn Find 1932 Ford: A Hot Rod Build From The 1950’s That Was Never Finished But Ultimately Pulled From The Barn For A New Lease On Life

Barn Find 1932 Ford: A Hot Rod Build From The 1950’s That Was Never Finished But Ultimately Pulled From The Barn For A New Lease On Life

Eastwood’s Parked series is kinda cool, and this is one of the stories from it. The idea behind the series, titled Parked – Automotive Adventures, is to have you hot rodders out there submit your stories of cool automotive adventures. There is no production crew, there is no script, just you sending in an email to tell them about your adventure. They choose some cool ones, get photos and video, then shoot a skype video with you telling the story of your find or whatever. In this case, Brant Halterman is telling a story of a mysterious 1932 Ford that had been forgotten, but not forever.

This barn find all starts from stories that a friend of his dad’s would tell, of his 1932 Ford 5-window coupe and the adventures surrounding it. When Brant’s dad passed, it wasn’t very long before the friend did too. And then one day there was an ad online for a 1932 Ford. When he saw the photos it didn’t even register in his mind, but after talking to the seller he realized he was talking to the family of his dad’s friend and that this was the 1932 Ford he’d been told about for years.

I’ll let him tell you the rest of the story, and show you where it was and how it got out of that little old barn. If you have your own story to share with the gang at Eastwood, then for the love of god send them a message and see if you can get your story told on Parked. All you have to do is email them at [email protected] and make sure to tell them that Chad from BANGshift sent you!

Flying Fords, Furious Noise: Here’s The 10 Best Ford Moments From Goodwood SpeedWeek 2020

Flying Fords, Furious Noise: Here’s The 10 Best Ford Moments From Goodwood SpeedWeek 2020

Ford’s history in motorsports is very well documented. From the earliest days of Henry taking on Mr. Winton and kicking his ass to guys like Barney Oldfield setting speed records on ice in the 999 to the incredible 1960s wen the company’s “Total Performance” era was set on nothing short of global domination, racing has been the lifeblood of Ford. In many ways, this continues today. Road racing, NASCAR, NHRA drag racing, small tire stuff, etc. Fords can be found throwing down.

In this video from Goodwood SpeedWeek 2020, we get a look at the top 10 Ford moments from the event. Like everything at Goodwood, these are varied and cool. From rallying Escorts to 1990s Trans-Am Mustangs, there’s a wide array of Ford power and beauty on display.

We’re not sure if the world of 2020 still has the same mindset when it comes to automotive rivalries that other decades had. Ford vs Chevrolet was it for decades. We’re just not so sure that is true. It’s like every company for themselves and Ford continues to be a player.

This celebration of their history in motion and at wide open throttle is fantastic.

Stocking Stuffer: The Absolutely Epic Jason Plato/Matt Neal Interview Inside Of Renault Williams

Stocking Stuffer: The Absolutely Epic Jason Plato/Matt Neal Interview Inside Of Renault Williams

For a kid with a strong racing fascination in the mid-to-late 1990s, you essentially had two outlets if you wanted to see good action on television: TNN and Speedvision. (I’m sure ESPN showed something in between other sports, but I couldn’t be bothered.) TNN was where you went to see NASCAR highlights, swamp buggy racing, automotive shows at the time, and the occasional tough-truck competition. Speedvision, when it hit our cable provider in 1996, was where you went when you wanted a taste of the weird and the unknown. Much to the irritation of my parents at the time, I would be wide awake at three in the morning with the television on, the volume cranked just high enough that I could hear something, watching British Touring Car racing. I loved the stuff, because in my developing mind, it had three things NASCAR just didn’t have: real, identifiable cars; road courses instead of one sweeping oval; and drivers with personalities and tempers that didn’t hold back because it would look bad upon their sponsors. If anything, it seemed like the sponsors were gently pushing their wheelmen to be a bit more…how should I phrase this?…hands-on when it came time to solving disputes.

Over the years we’ve shown you great action from the BTCC, including the absolutely infamous incident at Silverstone in 1992 that saw middle fingers flying on live television coverage and body panels getting smashed in like it was a banger race and not a touring car run. That was the early 1990s…by the late 1990s the two gentlemen that are being interviewed by Jonny Smith were point and center in what many saw as a bitter rivalry. Jason Plato and Matt Neal were names you heard regardless of when you tuned in for a race. Their personalities are so different, yet the same in many aspects. For years these two have battered and bashed their way around tracks, have found themselves in front of the officials and the cameras alike for their antics, and have somehow managed to be friends, even after threatening to kick the shit out of each other after big crashes.

Merry Christmas, BangShifters. Once the wrapping paper gets cleaned up and the kids are off with their new goodies, sit down and watch these two. It’s worth it.

Classic YouTube: A Day On The Dunes At Silver Lake In 2013 – Paddle-Tire Fun In The Sand!

Classic YouTube: A Day On The Dunes At Silver Lake In 2013 – Paddle-Tire Fun In The Sand!

One thing that I have not done, ever, is go play in the dunes. I didn’t do it when I rode bikes, I didn’t do it when I had three-wheelers and quads, I didn’t get to go when I owned trucks worth taking, yet it’s something I’ve always wanted to do and having talked with people who go regularly, it should be a bucket-list item for you. Why? Watch the video…seriously, there isn’t much else I can offer you in the form of words. From abused Kias to high-dollar sand rails that will hang the front tires on demand, it’s there. Ever wonder what a royally pissed-off Yamaha Banshee sounds like? Got you covered. Like seeing desert-style trucks flying? There’s plenty here, plus sand dragging trucks and beaters that are about to learn to fly. How about one poor soul that must’ve lost a serious bet? Hey, you can only blame yourself if you bet on the Bears there, guy…at least you’re wearing your issued reflective belts! But if you need another reason on top of the gearhead link, consider a trip to the dunes a camping trip as well. You’ll be surrounded by fellow gearheads in a maintained state park. What more could you want?
