Sport Sedan 90s Style: This Motorweek Review Of The 1995 Mercedes-Benz C36 AMG Is A Neat Slice Of History

The idea of a sports sedan is something that has been present and accounted for in the modern sense of the American automotive market for about 40 years at this point. The BMW M3 broke the mold, the Taurus SHO brought it to the common man, and Mercedes was comparatively slow to enter the came, dropping the E36 AMG in the middle 1990s. Now since those days, the idea has morphed with more horsepower and more hardcore performance but as you will see in this video, when the Mercedes came into the fold, everyone took notice.

It’s kind of a quaint thing to think about but this car with its 268hp, 15.3-second quarter mile times, and beefier suspension was really a rock star back then. They were sold in really limited numbers as you’ll hear. Yes, only 1,000 were going to be built over the planned three year run of the car which was a partnership between Mercedes and AMG. Today you can buy a Toyota Camry that would bury this thing in about every respect. That said, the E36 AMG is still cooler.

There’s no turbocharger, there’s no active driver controlled suspension adjustments, hell there isn’t even a manual transmission on the option sheet! We’d still like to have one of these cars because when we were teenagers they were a hot ticket. Remember when these came out? What did you think back then? What do you think now?

Wicked Fast Isle Of Man TT Motorcycle Racing Footage – Near Miss, Crazy Action

The Isle of Man TT is arguably the most bad ass motorcycle race on the planet. It just is. Held on public roads, with bikes of all kinds in a variety of classes, the entire place shuts down during race time and the spectators line the roads like little school kids waiting for the ice cream man. This is some epic stuff here folks and if you have never seen it before then be inspired to do something crazy right here. Keep in mind, the Isle of Man is not some place full of modern 4 lane roads and a road course like when a Grand Prix comes to a major city. No, we’re talking small roads, rock walls, lots of bumps that become huge jumps, and very very few barricades. That means that lots of people are standing with nothing but the small farmers fence or small wall around their yards between them and motorcycles going 150-200 mph. Yeah, it’s that kind of awesome.

Watch the video, love the action, and also enjoy the reactions of some of the people who have never been this close to the action before. You’ll see the look of shock on their faces, their hair blowing in the wind as bikes go by at break neck speeds, and the fun things that come out of their mouths after seeing them go by. This is fun stuff.

Making Six Out Of Four: Watch England’s Allen Millyard Create A Set Of Kawasaki Z1 Six Cylinder Jugs!

We have been showing you some cool videos recently shot by a guy named Allen Millyard in England. This dude creates wild, factory-looking custom motorcycles in his little garage and shed and he does it all basically by hand. In this video we see him take a couple sets of Kawasaki Z1 four cylinder jugs and make a six cylinder set for an engine he is custom creating. The process is fascinating, cool, and something that he makes look really easy but certainly isn’t.

Millyard is a hot rodder of the highest level and his medium is motorcycles. From building a 5-liter V-twin engine and riding it around on a custom chassis to doing stuff like this, he always has neat ideas and has the time, the guile, and the knowledge to make them all work. It’s all so simple on paper, right? Cut some stuff up, weld it back together, and just go ahead and make it perfect so that they fit onto a block you also modified. No sweat! We love his videos because they are really step by step trips through the process of his many, many builds.

We’re going to keep following this one and frankly, having seen this part of the process we should probably show you how he modified the block, tomorrow. Right? Smart guy with basic tools and a really awesome approach. What’s not to love here?

Ford’s history in motorsports is very well documented. From the earliest days of Henry taking on Mr. Winton and kicking his ass to guys like Barney Oldfield setting speed records on ice in the 999 to the incredible 1960s wen the company’s “Total Performance” era was set on nothing short of global domination, racing has been the lifeblood of Ford. In many ways, this continues today. Road racing, NASCAR, NHRA drag racing, small tire stuff, etc. Fords can be found throwing down.

In this video from Goodwood SpeedWeek 2020, we get a look at the top 10 Ford moments from the event. Like everything at Goodwood, these are varied and cool. From rallying Escorts to 1990s Trans-Am Mustangs, there’s a wide array of Ford power and beauty on display.

We’re not sure if the world of 2020 still has the same mindset when it comes to automotive rivalries that other decades had. Ford vs Chevrolet was it for decades. We’re just not so sure that is true. It’s like every company for themselves and Ford continues to be a player.

This celebration of their history in motion and at wide open throttle is fantastic.

The Acura NSX is the most non-Honda product the company ever made. Basically, Honda showed Ferrari how to build a sports car that wasn’t a tempermental little bitch to deal with on a daily basis. They had Aryton Senna involved with the development program and he didn’t spare the rod when creating this baby. The end result was the first all-aluminum body car that was packing a 3.0L V6 with VTEC. That’s it. Okay, in 1997 the engine got a bump to 3.2L in size, but that’s it. And there’s nothing wrong with that! An NSX is a great car. Gordon Murray, the man who was responsible for the McLaren F1, owned and cherished his, claiming it as the greatest thing since sliced bread.

This NSX looks like the car you win in a race in a video game. The huge wing, the front splitter situation, those wheels and the livery…it’s legit. This machine is a time attack car. Dog box transmission, a 9,000 RPM redline, and a Honda K-series four-cylinder providing the grunt. Think about how many wicked four-banger Hondas there are out there. Now think about how many built Honda V6s you can name off that aren’t stuffed into an F1 car. See the reasoning yet? If not, wait until you hear this machine in action. You’ll get it then.

If You Aren’t Smiling After Watching These Citröen Dyanes Rally, Then You Are Probably Seasick From Watching The Suspension Work!

Think of the Citröen Dyane as an upgraded version of the 2CV: in top-performance Dyane 6 form, there’s a 602cc flat-two engine driving the front wheels, a very light body structure, and after watching them go all-out at a rally, suspension travel that requires Dramamine to tolerate. We love an inappropriate car doing what it shouldn’t do, and with bicycle-wide tires and 32 horsepower on tap, rally racing is the last possible thing we would do with one. Alberto Miera, on the other hand, has absolutely no issue whatsoever wringing out his Dyane 6 on rally courses. The YouTube video description refers to Miera as the “brave pilot”, and watching the Dyane move around reinforces that statement. It might not be powerful, but anything past cruising speed brings out the suspension travel, and Miera isn’t afraid of the car at all, going so far as to induce oversteer. Watching the front wheels lay over in the corners makes us wonder just how many tie rod ends he goes through per race!
